The Guest Sanctuary: A Masterclass in Modern Majlis Architecture

At JM Architect, we believe that majlis design is the most significant expression of a home’s soul—a dedicated space where the ancient tradition of hospitality meets the precision of modern interior architecture. For our premium clients, the majlis is not merely a sitting room; it is a cultural anchor designed to facilitate conversation and community in a setting of absolute comfort. Our design language for the modern majlis utilizes a sophisticated palette of laser-cut geometric screens, floating gypsum ceilings with integrated warm-glow lighting, and bespoke U-shaped modular seating. A key element of our approach is “Acoustic Softening,” where we integrate upholstered wall panels and heavy-gauge drapery to ensure that even during large gatherings, the room maintains a quiet, dignified atmosphere. By balancing neutral tones with metallic brass accents and traditional calligraphy, we create a space that feels both cutting-edge and deeply respectful of heritage.

The story behind our majlis transformations is a reflection of the JM Architect commitment to artisanal detail and rapid execution. The client for this 1-Kanal project sought a complete interior overhaul to create a formal men’s majlis that could accommodate twenty guests without feeling crowded. They dedicated a realistic investment of 2,800,000 PKR to the interior fit-out, covering everything from the Italian stucco wall finishes to the custom-built low-profile sofas. While traditional woodworking and upholstery for a room of this scale often take three months to coordinate, we utilized an “Off-Site Manufacturing” model. Our carpentry team fabricated the intricate wall fluting and sofa frames in our controlled workshop while the on-site team finalized the marble flooring and smart lighting conduits. We completed the entire project—from structural ceiling modifications to the final placement of hand-woven rugs—in just 45 days. We handed over the keys two weeks early, ensuring the client was ready to host their first gathering in a space that perfectly reflects their status and hospitality.
